William Amos Mummery

William Amos Mummery  1892 – 1915

William was born in Shepherdswell in 1892 to John and Elizabeth (née Ash), one of seven children, although two had died by the time of the 1911 Census.

He started school on 23rd March 1896 but in 1911 he was not with the family on the Census. It is known that William worked as an undergardener.

He enlisted on 1st September 1914 in Canterbury, in A Company, 6th (Service) Battalion, (The Buffs) East Kent Regiment, service no. G/417, as a private. He was posted on 5th September 1914 and died of wounds sustained in France on 23rd July 1915.

He is buried in Bailleul Community Cemetery, Extension Nord, France.
