Percy Charles Rofe

Percy Charles Rofe  1901 – 1935

Percy was born on 9th April 1901 in Shepherdswell, to parents Walter Sion Rofe, a groom, and Annie Elizabeth (née Poisden).  He would have been nine years old when his father died. The family lived at 2 Dorchester Cottages.

Percy joined the Royal Navy on 11th October 1916 as a Boy II. He served in Ganges, King George V, Hecla, Pembroke I, Columbine, Constance and Repulse, with the service no. J60715. When he enlisted, he was described as 5’ 4½” tall, with light brown hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion. He appears to have remained in the Navy until 1928.

In 1925, he married Annie Carden. They had at least two children, one of whom, Frank, was born and died in 1932.

Frank had been named for Percy’s brother, Frank, who had died in 1917. His daughter’s middle name was May, named for his sister who had also died in 1917.

Percy died on 26th February 1935 in the Uxbridge area. He was only 33.
