Edmund Stanley Virgo

Edmund Stanley Virgo  1898 – TBC

Edmund was born in Plumstead on 18th October 1898 to Timothy John and Ella (née Stimson). He was known as Stanley. His father was the Station Master at Shepherdswell from 1905 to 1920/1 and the family lived at 2 Mayfield Villas. They moved away following Timothy’s promotion.

Records for the War do not name Edmund Stanley Virgo, however there is a Stanley Virgo who may be him. If correct, he enlisted on 8th October 1915, almost 17 years old, and saw action in the Balkans.

In April 1923, Stanley was living in Glamorgan when he married Elizabeth Ann Williams in Shepherdswell. Elizabeth was known as Cissie and was a Sunday School Teacher prior to their marriage. They subsequently moved to Eastwood in Nottinghamshire, where Cissie died on 8th September 1931 after a long illness.

In 1933, Stanley married again, to Dorothy M Parker. The 1939 Register shows them living in Eastwood and he is employed as a Certified Colliery Surveyor. His date of death has not been confirmed at present.
