Norman John Ouseley

Norman John Ouseley  1900 – 1969

Norman was born on 26th September 1900 in Shepherdswell, to parents William Henry and Bessie, and baptised on 25th October that year. Other records for Norman in the Census of 1901 and 1911, or relating to his parents, to give more information, have not been found to date.

Norman joined the Royal Navy on 11th April 1916 at Chatham, service no. J52417, as a Boy II. He had brown hair, grey eyes, fresh complexion and was 5’ 7” tall. He signed up for a further 12 years on 26th September 1918, and saw service on ships that included Powerful, Devonshire, Pembroke, Cleo and Vivid. 

On 19th November 1920, he purchased his discharge as he was intending to live in Italy.

From this point, there are several instances of him arriving by ship in America, working as a quartermaster in the Merchant Navy, ID cert no 484645. 

On 12th July 1937, aged 36, he married a Miss Parisi in Manhattan, New York. His mother died in Camaisre, Lucca, Italy, in 1953, indicating that he maintained links with Italy. 

He died at Englewood, Bergen, New Jersey, USA on 29th January 1969.
