Edward Lionel Prior

Edward Lionel Prior  1891 – tbc

Edward was born in Adisham on 15th February 1891, to Edward Terry and Phillis Jane (née Hart). The 1901 Census showed the family living in Nonington, with Edward senior working as a carter on a farm.

In 1911, the family was living on Church Hill and Edward was employed as a rural postman.

A Dover Express article of 15th January 1915 states that Mr E Pryer (sic) had been the village postman for several years and had now enlisted in the Buffs. Records for Edward appear to show that he joined the 4th Royal West Kent, 22nd London (Queen’s) as a private and then corporal, service no. 685022, seeing action in the Balkans.

Following the War, he married Rosa Fox, a widow, in 1923 in Ipswich and in the 1939 Register, they were living at Kelidara in Shepherdswell, where he was once again listed as a postman.

His date of death has not yet been confirmed.
