Arthur Herbert Wyborn

Arthur Herbert Wyborn   1891 – 1949

Arthur was born on 3rd July 1891 in Nonington, to parents Arthur, a farmer, and Edith Annie (née Munn).  In 1901 the family were residing in Eythorne.

He was baptised here on 3rd March 1906 with two of his siblings. His father died during this year when Arthur was 14 years old. At the start of the War, his mother lived at Glebe View in Shepherdswell.

Arthur enlisted in the Royal Navy on 11th May 1910, when he signed up for 12 years. He was described as being  5’ 8½” tall, with a fresh complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. He gave his place of birth as Dover, and began his service at HMS Pembroke.

He qualified as a leading cook’s mate and saw service on the ships Implacable, Vanguard, Gibraltar, Sandringham, Prince George and Acheron, until his discharge in August 1922.

Records for him following this have so far proved elusive. He died in the Orpington Hospital on 10th August 1949, aged 57, with probate given to his sister Edith.
